The only thing I know is what I read on the Internet, so, in short, I don't know much at all, but I did read this:
"Do I have the instincts and intellect that it would be a good fit for me and I would be a good for it. You know, would I be useful?"
Those words came from Matthew McConaughey as he ponders a run for some elected office.
Now we can rightfully presume that Matty Mac isn't talking about a run for Austin City Council. He said those words at a Governor's convention, after all.
No, our beloved screen idol probably has his eyes set on some office with a bit more esteem than just City Council. He seems intent on making a bigger splash, and I gotta applaud the ambition, though it may be misplaced.
I say that because he uses words like 'instinct' and 'intellect' and even 'useful'... These three qualities are the surest way to lose a federal election that I've ever seen. They go against every trait a professional politician needs for a sustained career in our Nation's capital.
I wish Matthew the best. He's a fine actor and probably has the chops to pull this role off too, if given the part. I just don't think it's wise in today's political arena to publicly announce yourself as the "intellectual candidate", or the "instinctual candidate" or even the "useful candidate." These words go against everything we've come to expect from our representatives, and I doubt they'll play well with an informed electorate.
